Project story
Winthrop Rear Alfresco Stormwater Upgrade
This documented Winthrop job involved lifting the rear alfresco paving, identifying an undersized existing soakwell, installing a new 2,750L industrial polypropylene stormwater system, and reinstating the paved area on completion.
What was found
Sunken paving and inadequate existing capacity
During the works, sections of the rear alfresco paving were found to be sunk and depressed. Investigation identified an existing soakwell of about 100 litres beneath the area, which was considered undersized for the stormwater load it was servicing.
The combination of paving subsidence and poor stormwater performance meant the area needed more than a surface tidy-up. It needed a proper stormwater capacity upgrade and careful reinstatement afterwards.
Work completed
- Lifted paving in the rear alfresco area
- Managed the inadequate existing stormwater arrangement encountered during works
- Installed a new 2,750L polypropylene stormwater system
- Completed backfill, preparation and paving reinstatement
- Returned the rear alfresco area to a neat finished condition
Excavation and paving lift
Paving was lifted so trenching and stormwater installation could be completed through the alfresco area.
Stormwater system installation
Excavation and installation works show the type of access and care often needed around paved residential areas.
Finished paved result
The rear alfresco area was reinstated and returned to practical finished levels after the capacity upgrade.
Why this project matters
This is a good example of why drainage jobs are often site-specific. The visible issue may look like paving movement or local ponding, but the underlying cause can be an outdated or undersized stormwater system below the surface.
Next-step recommendation in the report
The project documentation recommended continuing with replacement of the front stormwater system when suitable so the remaining infrastructure could be brought to a more appropriate long-term capacity.
